Job description

The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at TU Delft seeks a (0,7-1,0 fte) Professor in the area of steel, hybrid and composite structures. The faculty seeks candidates of international repute who can develop novel and relevant research programmes. The chair will focus on advanced and innovative techniques for the analysis and design of steel, hybrid composite structures. Experimental and computational methods for the analysis of conventional, hybrid and high-performance materials and structures will be part of the research. Particular emphasis is placed on sustainable, safe and environmentally-friendly structural design and analysis of steel, hybrid and composite structures. The ability to translate research into a balanced and inspiring Bachelor’s and advanced Master’s programme is important.
In addition to conducting research and aquiring funding, the Professor supervises PhD students, gives lectures and participates broadly in industry, research institutes and committees. The Professor also carries out management tasks in the faculty and department.

Requirements

The successful candidate should:
• hold a PhD in a relevant field;
• be a talented researcher of international standing;
• have a solid record of publications in internationally recognised journals;
• have relevant teaching experience;
• have the ability to initiate new and innovative research programmes;
• have a proven record of securing research grants from funding sources;
• have a clear interest and involvement in large-scale laboratory experiments;
• have collaboration experience with relevant industrial sectors;
• have the ability to communicate with all parties in relevant industry sectors;
and
• have proven leadership skills and be able to collaborate effectively with other staff members.

Professional engineering experience is an asset. International applicants must be willing to acquire a working knowledge of the Dutch language.

Conditions of employment

TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed internet access from home (with a contract of two years or longer), and the option of assembling a customised compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA'). Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
TU Delft sets specific standards for the English competency of the teaching staff. TU Delft offers training to improve English competency.
