Job description

The position explores the aerodynamics of aircraft components and implications on design. Theoretical analysis, numerical calculations and experiments are combined to achieve an understanding of flow behaviour and aerodynamic performance. Experiments are carried out in outstanding wind tunnel facilities (low-speed low-turbulence tunnel, boundary-layer tunnel, transonic-supersonic tunnel, hypersonic Ludwieg tube) aided by advanced measurement techniques (PIV, infra-red thermography, HWA). The computational work is carried out on high-performance computer clusters. The focus is on fluid dynamics topics for aerospace engineering, e.g. complex flows, fluid-structure interactions and flow control, aerodynamic design and optimisation, high-speed flows and computational fluid dynamics. The candidate will initiate and coordinate research, teach and supervise MSc and PhD students. The position can be filled as an Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on the candidate’s experience.

Requirements

Candidates must have a proven background in fluid dynamics and a PhD degree in an appropriate discipline, preferably in combination with post-doctoral experience. An affinity for modern experimental techniques is a strong requirement, while familiarity with numerical flow simulation is regarded as an interesting additional asset. The candidate is expected to have a record of scientific achievement, with substantial publication experience. He/she must have a demonstrated ability to initiate and direct research projects and to obtain external funding. The candidate should also possess good communication skills and be capable of teaching at the university level. The candidate is expected to have a strong international profile with an active international network of scientific contacts.

Conditions of employment
