Functiebeschrijving

This PhD research is a part of the NWO programme IMDS which involves seven projects with researchers at five different universities working together on a variety of subjects from applied physics to reach a common goal: the recovery of highly specific polymers from waste flows at 100% purity. One of two projects at the TU Delft focuses on the creation of a comprehensive innovation tool for the development of new technology for polymer and WEEE recycling. Research at the Resources and Recycling group has a reputation for translating innovative physics into industrial reality, resulting in six spin-off companies to date. The project offers the opportunity for a new PhD student to join our team and work together with the large number of other new PhD students and post-docs involved in the IMDS programme.
The main task of the PhD student will be to develop a methodology and tool to speed up the innovation process by making stakeholders understand the impact of each other’s innovations. The newly developed innovation tool will be used to optimise process designs, understand the impact of scientific breakthroughs by the research teams on new materials used for packaging, by predicting changes of the performance of the system as a whole. The intention is to provide a user-friendly tool and validate its predictions by comparing results from implementations with simulation. The challenge will be to make a tool that can accept information from partners in the innovation process with widely different backgrounds and also return feedback to them in their own context.

Functie-eisen

Our group seeks an enthusiastic person with a background in computer science / software engineering / technology management (MSc degree) and an interest in software development. A good comprehension of English, both spoken and written, is required. Candidates should also have an affinity with innovation and working in multidisciplinary teams.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden
