Extraction of meaningful information from multimedia data through signal/image/language and multimodal data processing approaches

Job description

The successful candidate will strengthen the Multimedia Computing (MMC) Group’s expertise in the domain of multimedia analytics, that is, extraction of meaningful information from multimedia data through signal/image/language and multimodal data processing approaches. The focus lies on expanding the classical notions of information relevance, taking into account aspects such as affect, aesthetics, experience, interest, intent, utility, privacy, and truthfulness. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching at the BSc and MSc levels, supervision of PhD students, research funding acquisition, technology transfer, and faculty management tasks.

Requirements

The candidate has a PhD and a proven track record of scientific excellence in a technical discipline related to the job description above. He/she has the ambition to strengthen the research and teaching of the MMC Group and the Department of Intelligent Systems. Solid experience with multimedia signal processing and machine learning is required and the candidate should be comfortable with teaching courses related to these fields in the Computer Science curriculum. Teaching experience at the university level is preferred. Teaching certificates are considered an advantage. The candidate is an enthusiastic team player and has the ambition to build partnerships with other groups and departments of the TU Delft, and with leading academic and social institutions and industries worldwide.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: Tenure track.

A tenure-track position is offered for six years. Based on performance indicators agreed upon at the start of the appointment, a decision will be made by the fifth year whether to offer you a permanent faculty position.

The Multimedia Computing Group within the Department of Intelligent Systems develops methods and algorithms that enable effective, efficient and intuitive access to large collections of heterogeneous, unstructured multimedia (multimodal, multisensory) data in real-world contexts. The developed solutions are oriented towards the needs of users and are realised using both the search and recommendation paradigms. The group combines expertise in multimedia information retrieval, recommender systems, multimedia signal analysis and processing, and (social) network analysis.
