Department

Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science

The Department of Software Technology comprises the EEMCS Faculty research groups working on core computer science and engineering topics. The department is responsible for a large part of the curriculum of the BSc and MSc programmes in Computer Science. The department’s research mission is to perform excellent research at an internationally recognised level in the design, construction, and analysis of complex, concurrent, and cooperative computer and information systems. Inspiration for the research topics is derived largely from technical ICT problems in industry and society.

Algorithmics is a core area of computer science concerned with the design, analysis, and implementation of problem-solving methods that can be executed on computer systems. The research of the Algorithmics group focuses on novel algorithmic techniques in automated planning, where in particular 1) handling uncertainty, 2) dealing with strategic behaviour in multi-actor settings, and 3) the design and evaluation of flexibility metrics are important aspects. We aim to apply these techniques in traffic and transportation, energy, and maintenance areas. To realise these applications we strongly focus on the development of advanced algorithmic toolboxes based on generic methods and techniques.
