Job description

The primary task of the professor is to lead the DCM section towards the fulfilment of its scientific and educational goals, including planning work, finance, and staffing. The professor will ensure the quality and futher development of the DCM educational and research programmes and stimulate innovation in DCM education and research, addressing both soft aspects, e.g., team cooperation and management styles, and hard aspects, e.g., innovative ICT solutions for design and supply chain management. The chair holder will also raise research funds (e.g., H2020, INTERREG, and the NWO), initiate and lead international research projects, and disseminate research results through international scientific publications, the organisation of and participation in (inter)national conferences, and through academic and professional networks ensure knowledge valorisation. The chair holder will also perform management tasks for the department and faculty.

Requirements

The successful candidate must:
• be internationally recognised as a principal researcher and leader of research projects, with a record of high-quality publications;
• hold a doctorate obtained at an internationally recognised academic institution;
• have a proven track record of contract and externally funded research, such as EU and national research grants;
• have a broad research network, and be abreast of developments in the field in Europe and worldwide;
• have very good verbal and writing skills in English;
• have excellent didactic skills;
• be a team worker with sound leadership and management capacities, capable of utilising and developing the competencies of the staff.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 5 years with prospect of tenured position.

Architecture

The Department of Management in the Built Environment (MBE) provides education and performs scientific research in the management of the built environment. MBE helps to meet the growing demand for building engineers with the necessary knowledge and skills relating to the management aspects of the initiation, development, and design of the built environment. The department has an annual MSc student intake of about 80.

The field of design and construction management embraces the management of building projects by different parties, from inception to delivery and, increasingly, aspects of operation. The work of the section focuses on the improvement of collaboration between parties and integration of processes across the entire supply chain, and in particular the consequences of new practice forms such as Circular Economy for the business models of individual actors. Application areas include adaptive re-use of buildings and integration of information and processes across the whole building life-cycle.
