Job description

Quantum computation is the man on the moon goal of the current second quantum revolution. How will we get there? Join us in our mission to turn everyday silicon into the quantum computing wonder material! To make this dream come true, we have partnered with the leading semiconductor industry towards high volume manufacturing of Si qubits. The aim of this PhD is to tackle key material challenges relevant for qubit operation, such as understanding and engineering valley splitting in Si quantum wells. This is crucial for obtaining high-fidelity qubits for higher temperature operation. Specifically you will design Si quantum wells, fabricate devices, and measure their electrical properties at low temperature and high magnetic field.

Requirements

A master's degree is required to enrol in a PhD programme at the TU Delft and to apply for these positions. Candidates with a master degree in physics or electrical engineering are desired. Candidates with interest/experience in experimental techniques such as crystal growth, micro/nanofabrication, or cryogenic measurements are strongly encouraged to apply or enquire (g.scappucci@tudelft.nl). Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

Within the Scappucci Lab at QuTech, we design, realise, and study electron and hole systems in strained silicon/germanium quantum wells and explore the capabilities of these materials for quantum computation. We are part of the Fault Tolerant Quantum Computing scientific roadmamp at QuTech focusing on spin qubits.
