The objective of this PhD position is to further improve integrated design by using data streams for the development of infrastructure projects, new assets, replacement of assets, or upgrading of assets. The approach foreseen is that the focus will not only be placed on data analysis and extrapolation of information for future use and application, but also on integrated design and collaborative relationships. Successfully integrating data streams in collaborative practices of integrated design requires new skills and competencies of the operators’ project managers. In close collaboration with the asset managers, a rapid cycle research approach will be used via involvement in new initiatives and existing programmes of our four infrastructure partners.

You have:
• a relevant MSc degree in data management with an affinity for project management or a similar relevant field.
• an analytical approach to problem solving and eagerness to learn new things.
• a proven background/interest in further developing your data analysis, modelling, and/or programming skills.
• excellent spoken and written proficiency in English; proficiency in Dutch is a prerequisite.
• ability to contribute to a stimulating research environment.

You are ambitious, you take initiative, and you have good communication skills, which are needed for communicating with parties involved at all levels, from employees in the field to the management of the infrastructure companies. Actual related work experience is an advantage.

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

Civil Engineering & Geosciences

The Integral Design and Management section provides research and education in the field of integrated design, project management, and asset management of engineering and infrastructure projects in all the phases of the life cycle. The section consists of three chairs, Integrated Design, Management of Projects and Asset Management. The section currently employs 21 PhD candidates divided over the three chairs. The main focus of the research is to improve design and project management by giving more attention to the early phases of the projects via earlier involvement of parties and giving more attention to the human element in the management of the projects.
