Teach, develop, and organise courses in the field of hydraulic infrastructure and engineering

Job description

We are looking for a colleague who will teach, develop, and organise courses in the field of hydraulic infrastructure. In the education programme, new developments in the hydraulic engineering field should be continuously implemented. You will supervise Bsc and MSc students for internship, project and thesis work. Depending on your expertise you will become responsible for one or more of the following courses in the field of hydraulic infrastructure: Introduction to hydraulic engineering (CT2320), Hydraulic Structures 1 (CIE3330) and / or 2 (CIE513), Probabilistic design (CIE4130), Probabilistic design in hydraulic engineering (CIE5310), Flood Defences (CIE5314), Breakwaters and closure dams (CIE5308).
You should ideally have a special interest in the fields of probabilistic design / reliability analysis, flood defences (structures and earthen) or coastal structures. A background and interest in one or more of these fields would be particularly welcome. A good network in academia, the private sector, government and research institutes in the Netherlands is useful.
As lecturer, the coordination of the hydro-geotechnical and IDM (Integral Design and Management) annotations and the supervision of MSc students in these programmes are part of your job description. In addition, contributions to faculty and university-wide (project- and design-based) education tasks are foreseen.

Requirements

Applicants should have the following qualifications:
• MSc or PhD degree in civil engineering or another relevant degree.
• Relevant experience in and good knowledge of disciplines such as hydraulics / fluid mechanics, structural, geotechnical, systems engineering and / or probabilistic methods.
• Demonstrated experience or at least affinity with the design, management and / or execution of hydraulic engineering projects.
• Experience in in academic teaching and / or delivery and development of course programmes for engineering professionals.
• Team player mentality, enthusiasm (particularly for education), communication skills, results orientation, independence.
Depending on the background of the candidate, research tasks can also be added to the profile.

Fixed-term contract: Temporary.
