(1,0 fte – part time is possible) within the Human-Technology Interaction group of the School of Innovation Sciences (IS), which is part of the Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences (IE&IS).

Functieomschrijving

The Department of Industrial Engineering & Innovation Sciences (IE&IS) has several BSc and MSc programs in two separate schools. The School of Innovation Sciences focuses on the development and use of new technologies in a broad societal context. Research is multi-disciplinary, based on fundamental scientific insights and methods. Main areas of interest are economics and sociology of technological developments, sustainable innovation policy, human-technology interaction, and the history and philosophy of technology. 

The Human-Technology Interaction Group

The Human-Technology Interaction (HTI) group of the School of Innovation Sciences concentrates expertise in both social sciences and engineering, studying technology and its relations to humans and human well-being, within the broader context of a socially and ecologically sustainable society. The HTI group has a strong track record in education at the TU/e, running the BSc program Psychology and Technology and a (international) Master program in Human-Technology Interaction. The group also teaches several courses in the new joint Data Science BSc and Master programs of JADS (jads.nl). Current research topics at the Human-Technology Interaction group include affective computing, persuasive technology, virtual environments, digital gaming, recommender systems, online behavior, interactive lighting, robotics, and embodied interfaces. 

Tasks
  • Teaching courses in the BSc PT and in the BSc Data Science on Creative Thinking, Cognitive science, HCI / Human-data Interaction and programming and in the MSc HTI and the MSc Data Science on cognitive science and HCI topics. (formally, up to 50% of employment time);
  • Doing research in areas relevant to the Human-Technology Interaction group;
  • Applying for externally funded research projects;
  • Supervising BSc, MSc and/or PhD students;
  • Participating in teaching at the PhD level;
  • Contributing to the management of the Human-Technology Interaction Group.

    Functie-eisen

    The candidate should be open and interested to work in a multidisciplinary environment, with an international outlook, and with a strong focus on teaching excellence, scientific methodology and empirical research. You are an excellent communicator, both in speaking and in writing, with strong skills in teamwork and project management.

    More specifically we require the following qualifications:
  • a Ph.D. degree in Cognitive Science, Data Science, AI, Human-Computer Interaction or a related domain
  • Proven skills/expertise in Data Science
  • Programming experience (e.g. Python, R, HTML, CSS, PHP or related)
  • Holds or is willing to obtain a Basic Qualification Teaching (BKO) from the Dutch Universities' teaching certification program;
  • Experience and excellence in teaching as shown by course evaluations;
  • Excellence in research as shown by first rate publications in international journals and/or top-tier HCI conferences;
  • Excellent communication, organization and management skills;
  • Mastery of the English language (fluent);
  • Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in a team;
  • Ability to supervise PhD students and postdocs;
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment and to build bridges between disciplines, especially within the School of Innovation Sciences;
  • Strong affinity with technology and the engineering sciences.

  • A tenure track appointment for a period of five years;
  • A gross monthly full time salary of an assistant professor between €3.475 and €5.405 depending on experience and knowledge;
  • A yearly holiday allowance of 8% of the yearly salary;
  • A yearly end of year allowance of 8.3% of the yearly salary;
