The Database (DB) group at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) is searching for candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Data Management Systems, to support especially the bachelor and master programs in Computer Science and Data Science, and to contribute to other parts of the computer and data science teaching and research programs. The DB group has recently been established at TU/e, and is expected to grow in the coming years.

Position
As an assistant professor of database systems, you will collaborate in the DB group's research and teaching activities in the engineering and foundations of data management systems. The group is active in the Data Science Center Eindhoven, an initiative of TU/e to set up a world-class research and education program in data science and collaboration with industry including joint MSc and PhD projects.  The current focus of data based research in the group is on the management of massive graph structured data sets, such as social networks and linked web data. Your area of specialization will complement this focus and your profile and research interest will be important in defining it.

You have the experience and passion to independently define and execute an innovative research program, targeting top tier venues such as SIGMOD, ICDE, EDBT, ICDT, PODS, and VLDB.  Furthermore, you have the enthusiasm and ability to design and lead educational activities in data management (and beyond) to diverse student groups, both at the BSc and MSc levels. Our current (database) course portfolio consists of Data Modeling and Databases (BSc), Data Engineering (MSc), and Database Technology (MSc) but this will be expanded due to the growing interest in data science and computer science.

Finally, we expect you to have the leadership qualities and drive to define and realize PhD and postdoctoral research projects, including acquiring external support for these projects.

At the time of appointment you as a successful candidate must hold a PhD in Computer Science or other closely related fields. Furthermore, you have research and teaching experience in database systems necessary to undertake the job duties described in the Position description.  You are able and eager to contribute to BSc and MSc courses in database systems, computer science, and data science, including advising MSc research thesis projects in your area of specialization.  You are able and eager to acquire funding for and to guide PhD students and Post-docs.
