Tasks

A PhD position is available in this project to investigate quantitatively the relation between the biological composition of the plaque to rupture characteristics of the collagen network in the fibrous cap.  To explore this, we use of a dedicated experimental technique; a recently developed indentation device mounted on top of a confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) that enables local measurement of the anisotropic mechanical and failure properties of the cap at the micron scale. In combination with a collagen specific fluorescent probe the CLSM can be used to visualize deformation of the collagen fibers real-time during the experiment, and serves as necessary input to the inverse computational method to identify the mechanical properties.

We're looking for talented, enthusiastic candidates with an interest in (bio)mechanics, having a MSc in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, physics, or other relevant disciplines.

We offer:
