Job description

The key task of the new dean of SBE is the implementation of the Maastricht University Strategic Programme Community at the CORE 2017-2021 and the SBE Strategic Plan 2017-2021. In the past year the SBE community has put a lot of effort in establishing the new SBE strategy 2017-2021.
The aim of the new SBE strategy is to stay future proof in terms of quality, innovation, vigour/effectiveness and agility. To enable the execution of the new strategy, SBE has been restructured into result responsible units (RRUs) in 2017.

The new dean of SBE is expected to take the lead in further operationalizing/implementing the new SBE strategy and realise the 2017-2021 strategic objectives. These objectives are: 

  • Invigorating the School’s research activities by investing in high quality inter- or multidisciplinary research building on the School’s (and University’s) disciplinary research strengths by:

    • Further development of a limited number of societal relevant research themes

  • To maintain and expand SBE’s leading position in education by:

    • Continuously innovating the content and didactics/pedagogies of its bachelor’s programmes

    • A renewal of the SBE master’s programme portfolio

    • Reorganising and fuelling the School’s postgraduate education, training and development programmes

  • Renewed differentiated HR & HR development strategies (in line with the University’s renewed HR strategies and policies) to attract and retain highly motivated, international faculty and staff members.

    • The candidate has a clear vision for the future of the SBE;

    • The candidate demonstrates a strategic understanding of the revenue and cost dynamics in the business and economics higher education landscape; 

    • The candidate has proven experience in executing a set strategy and in delivering on quality as well as financial commitments;

    • The candidate is able to establish and implement a strategic HR-policy.
       

Building bridges – inside and outside SBE 

    • A strong academic track record with research that is internationally rated as very good;

    • Consistent strong achievements in innovation in learning and teaching with a demonstrable track record of launching new high quality academic programs;

    • The candidate has experience in working internationally;

    • The candidate has a demonstrated ability to mobilize academics and staff behind a common goal and to facilitate the building of bridges between different perspectives;

    • The candidate is well-informed on the international accreditation bodies (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA) and is able to play an active role in these networks;

    • The candidate has a good overview of and is well networked in the international environment in which SBE operates, both at the academic and business level; the candidate has experience in creating/managing partnerships with other schools, companies and/or other organizations.

    • The candidate is a bridge builder, within and outside the faculty, and an ambassador for Maastricht University.

    • The candidate has excellent communication skills

    • actively listening to understand broad and diverse feedback

    • clearly conveying complex topics to broad and diverse audiences

    • effectively presenting in public

    • fluency in English
