The full professor will provide academic leadership in the field of public policy and development. This includes performing high-quality research published in peer reviewed journals, interaction with stakeholders (increasing societal relevance and impact of the institute’s research, as well as fund raising), contributions to policy debates, teaching (Master and PhD level), and managing a small group of scholars in the field.

The holder of the chair will have an established research reputation in the broad field of public policy and development, and will be able to address a broad range of specialized topics within this field. The research specialization of the chair may either be closely related to existing topics within the institute (such as economic development, migration, social protection, sustainability, innovation, policy evaluation), or focus on different topics within the field with complementarities to the above-listed topics.

The candidate’s research reputation will be proven by relevant academic publications and successfully concluded PhD (co-)supervision. Openness towards, and some affinity with, multidisciplinary research is required of the chair holder. Experience in teaching is also a prerequisite. A track record of externally funded projects for relevant stakeholders is strongly desired. The successful candidate will also have an inspiring personality and a cooperative spirit. Ability to work in a diverse setting with many cultural backgrounds and sensitivity to gender issues is also a necessity.

You will be appointed in the Full Professor job profile for a full-time job (38 hours/week). Your salary will be between € 5334 and € 7766 gross per month, according to scale H2. On top of this, there is an 8% holiday and an 8.3% year-end allowance. Non-Dutch applicants could be eligible for a favorable tax treatment (30% rule).

A Preliminary scale might be a possibility based on experience.

Maastricht Graduate School of Governance and the research institute UNU-MERIT

The Maastricht Graduate School of Governance (MGSoG) is fully embedded in UNU-MERIT, which is a joint institute of the United Nations University (UNU) and Maastricht University. The institute carries out research and training on a range of social, political and economic factors that drive economic development in a global perspective. Special emphasis is on the process of technological change and innovation, including the governance of science and technology and on factors limiting the access to knowledge; on (public) policy analysis and evaluation; on the social aspects of growth and development, in particular the policy challenges posed by low levels of development including the limitations and possibilities for social security and other social policies; and on the relationship between global development and migration.

MGSoG is the centre for UNU-MERIT’s double degree Master of Science in Public Policy and Human Development, which aims to train public policy professionals for the global community. Overall the institute functions as a unique research centre and graduate school for around 100 PhD fellows and 140 Master’s students. It is also a UN think tank addressing a broad range of policy questions on science, innovation and democratic governance.
