The Maastricht UMC+ DataHub team is looking for a talented bioinformatician who is interested in building and maintaining our institutional infrastructure.

Job description

The Maastricht UMC+ DataHub team is looking for a talented bioinformatician who is interested in building and maintaining our institutional infrastructure.

As a bioinformatician you will be part of our multidisciplinary DataHub team, consisting of IT-developers, data stewards, policy makers and fellow bioinformaticians from both university and hospital. You will ensure that research data from various domains will be modeled, standardized and incorporated in the DataHub infrastructure according to the FAIR principles. You will work together with experts from the research domains to bridge the gap between academic research and the latest developments in (open-source) technology. Working for DataHub will also allow you to collaborate with the prestigious Maastricht University Institute of Data Sciences and our national and international partners.

 

Major duties:

  • Develop new workflows for ingestion, aggregation and export of data;

  • Collaborate with researchers to find optimal solutions to use the existing DataHub infrastructure;

  • Extend the DataHub infrastructure based on researcher's demands;

  • Assist in (meta-)data collection, conversion and enrichment;

  • Assist in system administration of our virtual Linux/Windows server stack;

  • Monitor up-time and security breaches of servers and services.

Requirements

We require:

  • A BSc in Bioinformatics, Information Technology, or equivalent;

  • Background in Linux and related scripting;

  • Experience with programming in Java, PHP, Python or other relevant languages;

  • Experience with Version Control (Git)

  • Being comfortable with open source technology;

  • Being comfortable with working in an innovative and agile environment;

  • Working proficiency in English.

    Additional preferences

  • Experience with automation software and container technologies (Docker, Ansible, Jenkins etc.) is a pre;

  • Experience with/interest in distributed data storage technologies (iRODS, etc.) is a pre;

  • Experience with database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL, noSQL, triple stores, etc.) is a pre;

  • Experience with maintaining IT systems according to changing project/operational requirements is a pre;

  • Experience with the use of metadata and data standards (e.g., vocabularies, semantics, ontologies, linked data) is a pre.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: one year with the prospect of a permanent position.

This is a temporary appointment of 1,00 fte (38 hours per week) for a period of one year with the prospect of a permanent position. The terms of employment for this position will correspond to the provisions set out in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (CAO-NU). Furthermore, local UM provisions also apply. Salary:

The gross salary depends on qualifications and experience and ranges between € 2.465,- and € 3.722,- per month, according to scale 8 - 9 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities.

We are a cross-organisational community within Maastricht UMC+ and work on FAIR data management solutions for researchers from both the academic hospital and the university. DataHub develops and manages an institutional repository for research data and enables researchers to store and retrieve scientific data in a sustainable way.
