Position for an Assistant Professor at the department of Neuropsychology & Psychopharmacology, section Neuropsychology at the Faculty of Psychology & Neuroscience

Job description

We are seeking a candidate with a strong interest in neuropsychology/clinical neuroscience, who has received substantial training in neuroimaging methods (e.g. EEG/MEG and/or fMRI) and modeling of brain and behavioral data (e.g. neural networks or connectivity-based analyses).

The primary research aim linked to this post is to bridge basic and applied research and to develop a research program on how to model brain plasticity in the healthy and affected brain across the lifespan.

The candidate should have published (as a first author) in peer-reviewed high impact journals on topics related to the research lines within the section Neuropsychology (i.e. neuroimaging, neuroplasticity, rehabilitation). The candidate has post-doc experience, and preferably has been successful in acquiring (personal) research grants. S/he should show strong interest and capacity to engage in imaging and modeling brain plasticity and participate in the development of tools using different Neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, DWI, PET, SPECT, EEG, MEG) to study healthy and affected brain function.

The candidate is expected to show high motivation in the teaching and the coordination of courses in the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience Program (Bachelor and Master) and Neuropsychology in particular.

Tasks

Teaching and coordinating courses at Bachelor and Master level in Psychology and Neuroscience. Examples of topics: General academic skills, (Clinical) Neuropsychology, Systems Biology, Bayesian Statistics, Modeling, and use of Neuroimaging techniques in the field of neuroplasticity in the healthy and affected brain. • Developing mathematical and empirical models of neuroplasticity in lifespan psychology that can explain reorganization and/or compensation of function in the healthy and affected brain.

  • Communicating research findings in high quality scientific journals and at international conferences;

  • Contributing to the acquisition of substantial external research funding that strengthens the Department’s research profile;

  • Supervising individual student research projects at Bachelor and Master level, and co-supervising PhD students.

  • Some years of post-doc experience following PhD graduation;

  • Enthusiastic teacher in various topics in the field of Psychology and Neuropsychology and preferably demonstrable teaching qualities (a Dutch University Teaching Qualification (UTQ), a similar qualification, or willingness to obtain this qualification;

  • High quality and constant level of publications in international, peer-reviewed journals; including record of publications in the Neuroimaging and brain connectivity topics in terms of methods and applications;

  • Demonstrable success in acquiring research grants;

  • Interest in developing theoretical models to study brain anatomy and function and the application of such models in brain pathologies;

  • Preferably, experience working in a multidisciplinary environment, with medical doctors, psychologist etc., which allow the candidate to translate theoretical models into clinical practice in the area of Neuropsychology/Clinical Neuroscience.

  • Programming skills in MATLAB, R, bash scripting using different platforms and proficiency using the main Neuroimaging analysis software packages (e.g., Brain Voyager, SPM, FreeSurfer, FSL), and/or EEG analysis (e.g. Vision analyzer).
