Job description

We offer a job as a Chair in Cardiovascular disease in primary care at the Julius Center. You will be expected to supervise a group of senior and junior researchers within the primary care cardiovascular research group and to further expand the activities of this internationally competitive primary care research group. You will expand a network of national and international collaborators in primary care cardiovascular research and acquire funding for (inter)national clinical research activities in the field. You should play a leading role in improving the quality of clinical care for patients with cardiovascular disease and management of the disease. To this end you will also establish close collaboration with the clinical departments of Cardiology, Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine. You will participate in the management team of the department of general practice, and will be responsible for all primary care research activities within the department as well as participating in teaching activities.

Requirements

You have a broad academic experience and are an internationally renowned researcher, with a track record of acquiring research funds, publications in international journals which are well-cited, invited editorials and reviews, and oral presentations at international congresses on cardiovascular disease. You have a proven capacity to design and carry out cardiovascular research with a focus on early diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease in primary care, including diagnostic algorithms, risk stratification, and management of chronic cardiovascular disease, with the overall goal of improving clinical practice, and to collaborate with the relevant stakeholders to enable clinical implementation. You have extensive experience in teaching Bachelor, Master, PhD and postgraduate trainees, in both an executive and a coordinating position, with a track record in supervising PhD students. You participate in the Dutch ‘kaderopleiding hart- en vaatziekten’ for GPs and have a University Teaching Certificate (BKO). You can generate enthusiasm, and are creative, innovative and driven. You have experience in leading a research group (including staff members at principal investigator level) and in setting the strategic goals for this research group. You are a practicing GP with a PhD degree and over 10 years’ primary care practice experience.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: for 5 years.

For this 100% post, the maximum salary will be established at a later date. This will be a temporary appointment for 5 years.

The Julius Center is one of twelve divisions of the UMC Utrecht, with the mission to contribute to the scientific knowledge base of medical practice by initiating and conducting high-quality applied medical research and by providing high-quality education from bachelor to post-graduate teaching programs. The departments of the Julius Center are: Epidemiology, Primary Care, PHM (Public health, Healthcare innovation and evaluation, Medical humanities), and Biostatistics & Research Support. Its research programs cover four areas: Cardiovascular Diseases, Infectious Diseases, Cancer, and Methodology. The division also supports the design, conduct, analyses, and reporting of clinical research in virtually all departments of the UMC Utrecht.
