The primary responsibility of the chair is the improvement of perioperative care for elderly patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. To this aim, evidence based recommendations have to be implemented, research initiated and multi- and inter-professional training in geriatric perioperative care should be development and support ed. This clinical and research chair will work in close collaboration with cardiovascular surgeons, interventional cardiologists, geriatric physicians and epidemiologists. 40-50% of the time will be spent on clinical duties (cardiovascular perioperative care) and 50-60% on (research on) development and implementation of specific tools and care paths for geriatric surgical patients.
We are looking for a respected clinician, experienced in cardiovascular anesthesiology and holding a PhD degree, preferably on a topic within the field of cardiovascular anesthesiology. He/She must have demonstrable experience with supervising PhD candidates, be experienced in medical management and in developing and managing training programs. The candidate should be experienced in guiding perioperative care in elderly cardiovascular patients, active in elderly healthcare education and be willing and able to actively collaborate with other hospitals in the region. Finally the candidate is required to possess an enthusing personality, collaboration skills, organizational awareness and have an impeccable reputation, national and international network in the area of research and development in anesthesiology.
Fixed-term contract: 5 years.
For this 100% post, the maximum salary will be determined at a later date. This will be a temporary appointment for 5 years.

The chair will report to the chair of the department of Anesthesiology, this department is part of the Division of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. The division is responsible for delivering medical care to all patients in need for acute and temporary support of vital functions, in the perioperative period and in emergency cases. Furthermore, the division has an active research program which is embedded in UMC Utrecht wide strategic research programs such as Brain and Circulatory Health. The chair position is embedded with in the latter. The division also provides education and training, both at post-graduate and undergraduate level and for several paramedical programs.
