Job description

The University of Twente (UT) invites senior researchers with an outstanding research record to apply for the position of full professor in Computer Architectures for Embedded Systems (CAES) within the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. Candidates qualifying for a full professorship within a period of maximum 3 years are also invited to apply.

Your research focus is on co-design of hardware and software for Embedded Systems. Embedded systems are characterized by stringent requirements concerning power efficiency, costs, dependability and real-time performance guarantees. Besides these operational aspects, efficient design of both embedded systems and their applications are of crucial importance. Application areas of these embedded systems are e.g. wireless communications, sensor networks, public safety systems and automotive.

You will be head of the CAES group. Currently the group consists of 5,2 fte scientific staff members and 30 PhD students. You will be responsible for research and teaching activities in the area of computer architectures, modelling and tooling for embedded systems. In the area of computer architectures, the emphasis is on reliable, low energy processing. In the area of application modelling and tooling, an important research direction of the CAES group is the development of new abstractions and models that can be applied in programming tools to ease the hardware and software development for MPSoCs without compromising performance and energy-efficiency. It is likely that useful abstractions can only be created if additional constraints are imposed on the applied software programming models as well as the hardware architectures. In several projects the group works on tools for modelling streaming applications and parallelization thereof.

The CAES group contributes to the bachelor curriculum of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (modules Computer Systems, Programming Paradigms, Cyber Physical Systems and IEEE, design and graduation projects). You will be responsible for curriculum and strategic developments for the 4TU master program on Embedded Systems. Moreover the research group participates in development and teaching in the master curricula of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Embedded Systems.
