Job description

We are looking for a highly talented research scientist whose focus is on the development, analysis and application of finite elements methods for partial differential equations, which may also include inverse problems, optimization and optimal control with partial differential equations. The successful candidate is expected to have strong affinity with numerical analysis and scientific computing. In addition, the capability to develop collaborations between mathematics and the multi-disciplinary research context at the University of Twente is important. Particular focus will be on forging connections with the MESA+ Institute for Nanotechnology and with the MIRA institute for Biomedical Technology and Technical Medicine. The candidate will actively participate in the research within the Department of Applied Mathematics and collaborate with colleagues at MESA+ and MIRA.

Requirements

We expect a strong ambition toward innovative research, illustrated by publications in international journals. You are ready to take up the challenge to acquire research grants, either via personal schemes, such as within the NWO Innovational Research Incentives Scheme (VENI/VIDI/VICI) and the European Research Council, or in collaboration with others. The candidate should have excellent communication skills, allowing efficient interaction with colleagues from other disciplines. Training in Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics or equivalent, with a strong focus on numerical analysis and scientific computing, is essential.
You have obtained your PhD degree. The candidates should have a clear interest in teaching and will be involved in the teaching program of the Department of Applied Mathematics at the Bachelor and Master level, and are expected to transfer their specific expertise to the master program. The candidates are required to obtain the Basic Teaching Qualification (BKO).

Conditions of employment

The position will be at the assistant professor level. Initially, the contract will be for one year. After a positive evaluation the contract will be for an indefinite period. Criteria for promotion to the Associate Professor level comprise a strong track record of publications, evaluation of teaching capacities and a demonstrated ability to acquire research funding and to achieve an international network and reputation.

The terms of employment are in accordance with the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement for Universities (CAO). Depending on relevant background and experience, the gross monthly salary on a full time basis ranges from 3,475 € to 5,405 € gross per month. Employees are also entitled to a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3 %.
