Job description

We are looking for a talented scientist in the field of wearable robotics.  So far trans-femoral (above knee) amputees only have limited choices for knee prosthesis, either   lightweight non-motorized devices or heavy motorized devices. A knee prosthesis, which is lightweight and can provide active support, is not yet commercially available. This is largely due to technological challenges in design and control algorithms.

To push the technology limits further, the Reboocon group has developed a motorized prosthetic knee. The hardware specification is superior to existing devices. Now the control algorithms have to be further developed.

The goal of this research is to develop algorithms, which enable amputees wearing powered knee prostheses to achieve functional mobility. By implementing bio-inspired control algorithms, we hope that amputees can gain more natural, symmetrical, and efficient gait. The work involve human intention detection, sensor data fusion and classification, control algorithms and possibly machine learning and artificial intelligence.

A private company funds this research. An invention, confidentiality and non-compete clause will be part of the postdoc contract.
