The faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) of the University of Twente seeks outstanding applicants for a Tenure Track position. The applicant will develop new methodologies and new applications to exploit opportunities offered by the latest radar remote sensing platforms within the ITC research and education domain. The methodological focus will be on Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). You should collaborate on applications with an emphasis on the integration of radar with other sensing information, for instance optical and thermal information for earth sciences, food, water and the environment.
As major challenges in the domain is foreseen to establish innovative applications of radar information across ITC thematic domains: relating radar (SAR) data of different scales, relating radar (SAR) data with information from optical images, e.g. using assimilation, and developing and exploring the use of multiband and multi-polarization analysis methodology. Relations between radar signals and ground data are to be explored. A relevant application is the 3D (4D) modeling of deformation (e.g. earthquakes or groundwater extraction) and/or volumes (e.g. canopy or biomass) using InSAR or SAR interferometry.
The chair links with the departments of Earth Observation Science (EOS), Earth System Analysis (ESA), Natural Resources Science (NRS) and Water Resources Science (WRS). Possible links with the department of Urban and Regional Planning and Geo-Information Management (PGM) are in land subsidence and land cover classification with SAR data.
The Tenure Track position is open to highly talented candidates who hold a doctoral degree, have postdoc experience and excellent potential for a successful scientific career in the area of geo-information science and earth observation. You can start at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. We expect candidates to match their research interest with the focus of one of ITC’s research themes. We would like to emphasize that ITC’s research themes are closely linked to the so called ‘Ploumen nota’ titled ‘A World to Gain’. Ms Ploumen is the Dutch Minister for foreign trade and development cooperation.
Our ambition of this Tenure Track is that the candidate grows to a Full Professor (personal chair). The appointment is based on evidence of personal development rather than competitive factors.
