The NeurolabNL program: ‘Optimal conditions for learning and safety of young people’ uses knowledge about brain and behavior to better understand how young people learn new knowledge and skills, how they deal with challenges in society and how they can develop optimally. Within this program, universities collaborate with TNO, HBOs and the WODC. The OCW Start-impulse grant funds researchers at ten universities. The start date is January 1, 2018.

As one of the postdocs you will work on collecting physiological, context, and narrative data in a social learning context such as a school class. You develop advanced methods and techniques to analyze these data near-real time and translate the data into cognitive and emotional state of the students and into an early warning for possible antisocial behavior. The ambition is to analyze the data both at individual and at group level (also known as hyper scanning). You work closely with other partners in this project, particularly with the VU University Amsterdam, TNO location Soesterberg, and Hogeschool Utrecht. Working with (youthful) test subjects and operating in project teams are essential parts of your work. The appointment runs until December 31, 2020.

• Expertise in signal processing and preferably experience with (neuro-) physiological signals.
• Knowledge of advanced classification algorithms, psychophysiology, cognition, neuroscience.
• Experience with wearable / mobile hardware and software.
• Team player and experience in working with test subjects. Passion to bring different disciplines together.
• PhD in a relevant field (computer science, applied neuroscience, biomedical sciences, psychophysiology) and an appealing publication list.

The duration of the appointment is for a maximum of three years and ends on January 1, 2021. The gross monthly salary will start from € 3.111,- (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities) and will depend on experience and qualifications. Conditions are according to the national VSNU rules for universities, including: a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary and a year-end bonus of 8.3%, a solid pension scheme, a minimum of 29 holidays in case of full-time employment, and professional and personal development programs.
