Job description

We invite you to apply if you are a biomedical engineer, applied physicist, or electrical engineer interested in pioneering the fascinating world of light scattering by human milk.
You will be a member of the Biomedical Photonic Imaging group of the University of Twente. You will work in the Pioneers in Healthcare Project “Breast milk and human milk fortifiers: what do we feed our babies?”

Your role will be to develop an optical method to measure human milk composition. The overall goal of the project is to apply this method as a point-of-care solution for the personalized fortification of human milk in premature infants. Within the project, you will collaborate closely with health care professionals from the Medisch Spectrum Twente and lactating mothers.

Requirements

  • You have at least an MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics or Electrical Engineering. Applications by recently graduated PhDs will also be considered.
  • You have affinity with optics and photonics.
  • Experience with light scattering methodologies is an advantage, in particular Multi Angle Light Scattering.
  • You have excellent communication skills and you can employ these skills for an effective collaboration with health care professionals and lactating mothers.

Conditions of employment

You will be offered a full-time (38 hours/week) position for a minimum of 8 months and a maximum of one year, depending on your education. In accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, the gross monthly salary will be € 2.222,-- if you are a recently graduated MSc, and (depending on your experience) € 3.111,-- if you have a PhD degree, plus a holiday allowance (8%), an end-year bonus (8,3% of the annual salary) and a number of additional benefits.
