Job description

The Institute of Physics (IoP) of the Faculty of Science has two four-year PhD positions available at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Amsterdam, in the group of prof. J.-S. Caux, starting in September 2018.

The two PhD positions are part of an ongoing initiative aiming to develop nonperturbative methods for in- and out-of-equilibrium systems in low dimensions, in the context of quantum magnetism, cold atoms and nanoscale solid-state systems. Exceptional candidates with a keen interest in quantum condensed matter theory and a strong theoretical background are particularly encouraged to apply. Useful qualifications include for position 1: a good working knowledge of integrability; for position 2, knowledge and experience with state-of-the-art computational methods including machine learning.
