Research

  • Overall research time ca. 50%
  • Contribute high quality papers as first or senior author
  • Establish an innovative and independent line of research
  • Write personal career grant proposals
    (e.g., NWO Veni/Vidi, ERC Starter/Consolidator grant)

Teaching

  • Overall teaching load ca. 50%
  • Give challenging and engaging lectures in the area of individual differences
    (e.g., BA course Personality Psychology, Research Master course Theoretical Models of Individual Differences)
  • Assume mentorship of BA, MA and PhD students by supervising theses and (academic) internships
  • Both English and Dutch language courses are available

Other

  • Academic citizenship (e.g., helping department members with projects and proposals, commission memberships etc.)
  • Coordinating role in the Research Master

  • Good CV to apply for personal grants
    • Consistent record of high impact publications as first or senior author
    • Competitive citation record
    • Recent PhD completion (for other criteria, see grant websites)
       
  • Thematic fit related to the department's research program entitled Individual Differences: Bio-Psycho-Social Perspectives. For this position, we prefer a candidate with a track record in individual differences research. This research can be focused on personality traits but also on trait-like differences in motivation, temperament, emotions, narratives, self-views, etc. Ideally, we aim to study longer-term longitudinal development and/or micro-longitudinal development using experience sampling methodology, so relevant experience is a plus. It is also a bonus if the research fits the faculty topic of Health and Well-Being.
     
  • Teaching skills
    • Teaching certification or willingness to obtain one.
    • Excellent Dutch and/or English language skills.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

Tilburg University is among the top of the Dutch employers and has an excellent policy concerning terms of employment. The starting salary for the position of an assistant professor on a full-time basis ranges between € 3427,- and € 4691,- gross per month. Foreigners (and long-term Dutch expats) can apply for tax-free allowance of 30% of their taxable salary for a maximum duration of 8 years (this increases net salary by ca. 15%).

The department is contributing to education programs at the BA (developmental and lifespan psychology, forensic psychology) and MA levels (child psychology, forensic psychology, and the international Research Master program Individual Differences and Assessment). In terms of research, it is integrated in a faculty-wide program focusing on Health and Well-Being.
