Job description

Tasks are coordinated with the head of department, and typically include:

 

Research

  • Overall research time ca. 50%
  • Contribute high quality papers as first or senior author
  • Establish an innovative and independent line of research
  • Write personal career grant proposals
    (e.g., NWO Veni/Vidi, ERC Starter/Consolidator grant)

 

Teaching

  • Overall teaching load ca. 50% (including management)
  • Give challenging and engaging lectures in one of the educational programs of the department (see above)
  • Assume mentorship of BA, MA and PhD students by supervising theses and (academic) internships
  • Ability and/or willingness to teach in Dutch is a requirement (language training facilities are offered)

 

Other

  • Academic citizenship (e.g., helping department members with projects and proposals, commission memberships etc.)

Requirements

  • Good CV to apply for personal grants
    • Consistent record of high impact publications as first or senior author
    • Competitive citation record
    • Recent PhD completion (for other criteria, see grant websites)
       
  • Thematic fit related to the department's research program entitled Individual Differences: Bio-Psycho-Social Perspectives. It is also a plus if the research fits the faculty topic of Health, Care, and Well-Being.
     
  • Methodological expertise
    • Implementing longitudinal designs (e.g., cohort studies, micro-longitudinal designs such as experience sampling and diary studies, sample collection and retention, multiple imputation).
    • Deep knowledge of advanced and novel statistical tools to model longitudinal data (e.g., time series analysis, growth curve analysis, state-trait models, continuous time modeling).
       
  • Teaching skills
    • Teaching certification (equivalent to Dutch BKO) or willingness to obtain one.
    • Excellent Dutch and English language skills.
    • Record of good student evaluations.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 5 years.

Tilburg University is among the top of the Dutch employers and has an excellent policy concerning terms of employment. The starting salary for the position of an assistant professor on a full-time basis ranges between € 3475,- and € 4757,- gross per month. Foreigners (and long-term Dutch expats) can apply for tax-free allowance of 30% of their taxable salary for a maximum duration of 8 years (this increases net salary by ca. 15%).

Department of Developmental Psychology

The Department of Developmental Psychology at Tilburg University is an internationally diverse group of researchers who collaborate within the framework of the research program "Development of Individual Differences: Bio-Psycho-Social Perspectives". The department offers a stimulating and supporting work atmosphere in which scientists are encouraged to move beyond existing paradigms. The department is contributing to education programs in the Dutch and English Bachelor Psychology (Developmental and Lifespan Psychology; Forensic Psychology) and MA levels (Clinical Child and Youth Psychology; Clinical Forensic Psychology; Research Master Individual Differences and Assessment). In terms of research, it is integrated in a faculty-wide program focusing on Health, Well-Being and Adaptiveness.
