This position implies the following tasks:
• Developing a mutual framework in collaboration with humanities researchers on requirements, methodologies and research questions;
• Developing new deep learning image analysis algorithms and adapting existing algorithms to enrich and connect architectural digital images;
• Developing methods and algorithms to combine image analysis methods with human computation and/or semantic linking to enrich collections and build knowledge graphs;
• Design and implement applications for three specific repositories;
• Writing scientific publications and reports;
• Publishing software and (meta)data sets;
• Participating in workshops, conferences, and summer schools;
• Supporting the research groups by helping with administration and teaching duties;
• Writing research grant proposals for follow-up projects.

Functie-eisen

We are looking for candidates that:
• Have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence or related field;
• Have research experience in either Deep Learning for Image Analysis *or* in the field of Semantic Web and Knowledge Representation;
• Have proven affinity with or interest in the other field of computer science research as mentioned above;
• Have published in international journals and conferences in the field;
• Have experience (or affinity) with interdisciplinary projects in general and digital humanities in particular;
• Are a strong team player, willing to work closely with people outside your field of research;
• Are interested in Architectural history;
• Write and speak English.
 
Because of funding requirements, we strongly encourage candidates with a German passport to apply. Furthermore, we especially invite qualified women to apply.

Arbeidsvoorwaarden

• Remuneration of 8.3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday allowance;
• Participation in a solid pension scheme (ABP);
• A minimum of 29 holidays in case of full-time employment;

• Participation in Individual Choices model;

The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of € 3,193 gross per month up to a maximum of € 3,555 gross per month (salary scale 10) based on a full-time employment.

We are currently embarking on an ambitious collaboration with the UvA Informatics Institute. This will result in the largest conglomeration of computer science research in The Netherlands, and one of the largest in Europe.
 
This PhD position is embedded in the Web & Media group at the Department of Computer Science and in the Computer Vision Department at TU Delft. We are looking for a motivated and skilled post-doctoral researcher to conduct cutting edge research in a project which combines Deep Learning for Image Analysis with Semantic Web and Knowledge Representation within the context of the digital humanities project “ArchiMediaL” funded with a Volkswagen Foundation grant.
