The chair holder in Political Behavior in Europe will assume responsibilities in teaching, research and administration. The chair holder will contribute to teaching at the Bachelor, Master and postgraduate levels. In particular, s/he will serve as a figurehead for the track in Comparative European Politics in the Master in Political Science and s/he will contribute to the methods training of the students at all levels. The chair holder will also contribute to teaching at the faculty’s Graduate School of Social Sciences and to the faculty’s envisioned Research Master.
The chair holder in Political Behavior in Europe will contribute to and further develop the political science research program “multi-layered governance in Europe and beyond” (MLG). The chair holder is expected to continue the department’s successful record of attracting external research funding. S/he will apply for personal grants such as an ERC grant or a NWO VICI grant and will participate in consortial applications for EU sponsored projects such as Horizon 2020. The chair holder will play a key role in the Amsterdam Centre for Contemporary European Studies (ACCESS Europe) that has been established in 2014.
The chair holder will take on administrative duties in the department of political science and public administration. In particular, the chair holder will assume administrative responsibility for the teaching programs in political science and/or for the research management of the department. The chair holder will also be a candidate for heading the department in the future.

• A PhD degree in political science, or a closely related discipline;
• Outstanding track record in publishing in international refereed journals;
• An attractive research agenda in the field of political behavior in Europe;
• A proven record of acquiring external research funding;
• A proven record of excellence in teaching political science and quantitative methods on undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels;
• Excellent command of the English language;
• Command of the Dutch language and familiarity with the Dutch political system is a plus;
• The ability to work in a team as well as independently; and
• The ability to work in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment.

The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel, and depending on experience, range from a minimum of € 5.334,- gross per month up to a maximum of € 7.766,- gross per month based on a fulltime employment.

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration is committed to high quality academic education and research. The Department seeks a chair in Political Behavior in Europe. The ideal candidate for the chair in Political Behavior in Europe has a strong record in research and teaching on the way political behavior and attitudes evolve as a response to the internationalization of politics. Thematically the focus of the candidate’s work would preferably be on Europe, and involve both within-state and across-state analysis of political behavior and attitudes. The chair holder will cooperate closely with the two core chairs in political science and international relations and their teams by linking his/her research on political behavior and attitudes to research on the democratic and just governance of the European Union, and on the external relations of the European Union and its member states. The chair will also cooperate with the chairs in public administration by providing a broader European context to research on Dutch politics and administration. The command of the Dutch language and familiarity of the Dutch political system are therefore an advantage. The ideal candidate has a distinctive command of advanced methods of large-n, statistical analysis that is supported by the publication and teaching record. S/he is able to position his/her work in relation to the broader discipline of political science, including more international and more theoretical issues, and engages with other disciplines in the social sciences.
