We are looking for a sandwich-PhD for research on ‘Improving the sustainability of palm oil production chains in Thailand: integrating landscape and sector analyses’. For a one-page description of the PhD research project, see PhD4 under the ‘INREF project Towards environmentally sustainable and equitable palm oil’ at http://www.pap.wur.nl/UK/Research/.
We expect candidates to be highly motivated, curious and creative, with broad interests and special skills at the same time. You should have a relevant MSc degree in environmental sciences, with some modelling experience and preferably additional expertise in social sciences. Experience with research in the palm oil sector and abilities to develop research that can generate insights that are helpful to stakeholders in this sector, are assets. Given the sandwich-formula for the PhD researcher, candidates should be employed by a university, company or (inter)national NGO, preferably in Thailand.
Conditions of employment
We offer the challenging environment of doing a PhD for four years as part of the innovative, multidisciplinary and multi-level research program entitled ‘Towards environmentally sustainable and equitable palm oil’. You will be one of the eight PhD students working in this program, that is funded by the Interdisciplinary Research and Education Fund (INREF) of Wageningen University. You also will be part of the country team of three PhDs for Thailand and will be supervised by staff from Public Administration and Policy of Wageningen University and partner research institutes in Thailand. The fellowship for the PhD position covers the costs of 18 months stay in the Netherlands. A separate budget is available for field research.
For information about the contents of the PhD research, please contact Prof.Dr. Carolien Kroeze (Environmental Systems Analysis, WUR) at email@example.com. For information about the INREF program and sandwich scholarship, please contact Dr. Otto Hospes (Public Administration and Policy Group, WUR, and coordinator of the INREF program) at firstname.lastname@example.org.
