Job description

We seek a highly motivated and ambitious PhD candidate who will study the possibilities to produce "smart colloids" (nanoparticles, fibres, gels, ..) derived from biomass. First cellulose will be isolated from biomass using deep-eutectic solvents and then it will be produced in colloidal form using anti-solvent precipitation techniques. Several possible applications will be explored, including bulk structuring agents, for example in food applications, and nanoparticles that can be loaded with active ingredients, for example for environmentally benign antimicrobial or pesticide agents. The project is a collaboration between the Physical Chemistry and Soft Matter group at Wageningen University and Unilever Research.
