Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative, skilful and stimulating Lecturer Biosystems Engineering. You will be responsible for the coordination and teaching of a collection of courses within the Bachelors and Masters programme Biosystems Engineering. Activities include teaching courses and supervising practicals focussed on the basics of engineering, mechanics, physics, physical transport phenomena, physical aspects of soil technology, and development of research skills. Organizational aspects include coordination of the teachers involved in the courses, maintenance of Blackboards, organization of excursions and coordination of course examinations. Part of your time will be devoted to maintenance and innovation of the courses. In addition, you will be involved in one-to-one supervision of students during their BSc and MSc thesis project.

In this role of lecturer and/or coordinator you will be involved in the courses: 1) FTE-13303 Engineering I, 2) FTE-13807 Engineering II, 3) FTE-25303 Building Physics and Climate Engineering, 4) FTE-30306 Livestock Technology, 5) FTE-34806 Modelling of Biobased Production Processes, 6) FTE-34306 Quantitative Analysis of Innovative Biosystems, 7) FTE-31306 Greenhouse Technology, 8) YEI-80324 BSc thesis Biosystems Engineering, 9) FTE-80432 MSc thesis Biosystems Engineering. Requirements

We expect you to:
  • be an inspiring teacher, preferably with well-developed didactical skills,
  • have proven experience with course teaching (preferably having a BKO certificate or equivalent),
  • be a team player,
  • be an inspiring one-to-one supervisor of students during their Bachelor's and Master's thesis research projects,
  • have a solid basis in one or more engineering disciplines: mechanical engineering, physics and or transport phenomena,
  • have preferably a PhD degree,
  • have an affiliation with agriculture and an interest in the practical aspects of agriculture,
  • have good coordination and organizational skills,
  • have good communication skills,

Conditions of employment

The Farm Technology Group offers you an interesting and challenging research environment with interactions between researchers and students.

We offer you a full-time temporary position for a period of one year year, with an option to extend for another three years.

Gross monthly minimum salary is € 3.111 and max. € 4.757. (Scale 10/11 CAO NU), based on a full-time employment (38 hours per week) and dependent on expertise and experience.

The Farm Technology Group is part of Wageningen University and embedded in the Plant Sciences Group of Wageningen UR. The Farm Technology Group aims at enhancing, exploiting and disseminating technology in primary agricultural production processes with the aim to fulfil the needs of mankind and nature in a sustainable way. We pursue this mission by combining knowledge, methodologies and tools from technical sciences with biological, environmental, agricultural and social sciences in order to study, understand, manage and design biosystems. The group covers arable farming, (greenhouse) horticulture, livestock farming, and variations and mixtures of these application domains as they emerge in response to challenges posed by moving towards a more bio-based economy. Typical research instruments and expertise in our field include sensor technology, data analysis, systems analysis, continuous time and discrete time modelling, systems engineering, integral systems design, systems optimization and management and control of production processes, robotics and precision agriculture techniques.

With 16 courses at undergraduate and graduate level, the Farm Technology Group is one of the main course suppliers for both the Bachelors and Masters programme in Biosystems Engineering. Additionally, the group supervises many students during their BSc and MSc thesis research projects.
