Job description

Bridge the gap between knowledge and real-world change

The Aviation Academy adapts quickly to developments in the real world, with specializations in Aviation Engineering and Operations. As a PhD student, you will address problems in the area of Simulation and Behavioural decision-making for the Aviation Sector. You will use simulation and behavioural decision-making techniques to investigate the decision-making aspects under the Airport Operations Control Center (APOC) environment.

Your main focus will be on research (0.8fte), but you will also contribute to our educational programme (0.2fte). You will join the simulation research group at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences under the supervision of Dr Miguel Mujica Mota(www.mmujicamota.com).

The Aviation Academy has close collaboration with the University of Toulouse/ENAC (Ecole National de L’Aviation Civil). Therefore, the student will receive the PhD from the University of Toulouse (Not from AUAS). However, the working activity will be located in Amsterdam at the AUAS Aviation Academy, probably some time will be spent at EUROCONTROL (Brussels) and ENAC (Toulouse).

Requirements

As a successful applicant, you are proficient in English and have:

  • an MSc degree in the area of computer science, operations research, industrial engineering, mathematics or a closely related field;
  • strong analytical and mathematical skills;
  • good programming skills;
  • communication and teamwork skills;
  • an affinity with aviation.

Conditions of employment

Depending on your specific qualifications and experience, the full-time position of PhD student has a maximum salary of €3.726,-  gross per month (salary scale 9).
