What you are going to do

A full-time position has become available for an assistant professor.

You will

  • Work within the department of Biomedical Engineering and Physics. You will strengthen the research line on Cardiovascular Engineering. Notably, you will set up new collaborations with clinical departments in the field of Cardiovascular Research. This way, you will form a natural bridge between the current translational research of the department and clinical research. The aim of your research will be to improve understanding of cardiovascular pathology from an engineer’s view, and develop new diagnostic tools based on such understanding;
  • Contribute to the training of Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. students and coaching of post-docs;
  • Participate in the outreach of the activities of the department towards the general audience and specific stakeholders;
  • As member of our faculty, participate in organizational tasks within the department.

Requirements

What we expect from you

  • A background in biomedical engineering; 
  • A Ph.D. degree and additional post-doc experience;
  • A track record of peer-reviewed publications relevant for the current position; 
  • Proven ability to acquire research grants; 
  • Experience in both clinical and translational research;
  • The ability to collaborate in research teams and to be a role model for students and young researchers.

  • The maximum gross monthly salary based on a 36-hour work week is € 5.086,- (scale 11 CAO UMC) 
  • The base salary does not include allowances for irregular shifts, holiday pay (8%) and a year-end bonus (8.3%).
  • We initially offer an appointment for 12 months, with the prospect of a permanent position upon good performance.
  • In addition to excellent accessibility by public transport, AMC location also has a sufficient number of parking spaces for employees.
  • Pension is accrued at the ABP. Amsterdam UMC, AMC location contributes a large part of the premium (70%). 
  • We have a very active staff association and organize various (sports) activities and events throughout the year.

Department

Cardiovascular engineering group

You will join the cardiovascular engineering group within our department. Research within our department bridges the gap between engineering and physics at one side and life sciences and clinical medicine at the other. We provide further understanding of pathological processes, develop and improve quantitative methods for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases: Science for LIFE. Our research lines under the guidance of six Principal Investigators covers the areas of biomedical photonics, medical imaging and cardiovascular engineering. We train some 80 Ph.D. students and are involved in the education of Bachelor and Master students in medicine, physics, biomedical sciences, information technology, and many other disciplines.
