Education plays an important role at Utrecht University. Good education is provided by highly qualified teachers, who are enabled to improve and innovate their teaching skills. The Department of Cultural Anthropology of the Faculty of Social Sciences has a vacancy for a Teacher in Training (referred to as DIO, 'Docent in Opleiding') for a period of four years.
DIOs are expected to assist in teaching and course development and supervise thesis writing at BA and MA level. This DIO appointment includes 10% development time, intended for obtaining a University Teaching Qualification ('Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs', BKO). The appointment focuses exclusively on teaching; there is no room for conducting research.
The candidate will teach in undergraduate courses in the following areas: the anthropology of gender, political and urban anthropology, and ethnographic research methods. Courses are taught in English and Dutch. Candidates will support course coordinators in developing innovative teaching forms such as blended learning. Candidates are expected to take the necessary courses to fulfill this requirement. In addition, candidates will be asked to develop and implement a tutorage programme for the Premaster and Master programmes in Cultural Anthropology.
During the appointment candidates are trained to obtain a University Teaching Qualification and will follow various training courses on blended learning and innovative forms of teaching.

The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €2,709 and €4,274 (scale 10 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) gross per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 % per year.
