We seek an outstanding, highly motivated student with an excellent mathematical background for PhD candidacy within a project called ’Fluctuations of the metastable distribution in general SIS using NMF’ supervised by Dr Henk Don. This position is partly funded by the NWO STAR cluster.
The project is in the area of probability, or more precisely, interacting particle systems. The SIS epidemic process (or contact process) models the spread of infectious diseases in complex networks. The goal of the project is to develop tools to analyse and understand process behaviour in metastable equilibrium. In particular, we aim to investigate fluctuations and correlations.
The position is supported by a generous travel allowance and you will be encouraged to attend and contribute to international scientific meetings. You will be given a light teaching load, which may be carried out in English.
The intended start date is 1 September 2019.

This project is embedded in the Applied Stochastics group of the Department of Mathematics at Radboud University. The Applied Stochastics group is chaired by Prof. Eric Cator; other members currently include Dr Ross Kang, one postdoctoral researcher and three PhD candidates.
