Career opportunity

We are looking for a bioinformatician with a strong interest in software development and operations (DevOps) and research data management.

Background

The NKI-AVL is a leading Comprehensive Cancer Center with more than 100 years of history and employs several multidisciplinary teams consisting of pathologists, molecular biologists, scientists, bioinformaticians, software developers, data managers, laboratory specialists and other staff.

The department of Pathology is starting the project Pathology Translational Research Core (PTRC) IT & Data. The project team involved will support the biobanking facilities, data sharing initiatives, translational and clinicial research studies and the diagnostic IT processes. This team also participates in the Health-RI service desk (see http://www.health-ri.org/). Health-RI facilitates FAIR data stewardship, i.e. making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable, for translational research studies.

Your role

You will be part of the Data & IT team and work according to the Agile/SCRUM principles. Your main tasks will revolve around two open source software projects: tranSMART (see http://transmartfoundation.org/scientists-clinicians/) and cBioPortal (see http://www.cbioportal.org). For both, the team runs local (at NKI) and national (at Health-RI) instances in development, sandbox and productions environment.

Currently, a huge task for the Data & IT team is adopting these tools for over thirty (international) research projects. This requires data- and systems integrations with our local enterprise data warehouse, diagnostic and research IT systems, and the Health-RI toolset.

Requirements

  • A MSc. in software engineering, bioinformatics or related field
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Programming skills in at least several of the following: JAVA, JavaScript, R, Linux, HTML, .NET, MSSQL, ETL
  • Experience with clinical trials or translation research studies or with the above-mentioned software is a plus.
  • Experience with the Agile/SCRUM methodology is a plus.

Conditions of employment

The basis for your employment conditions is according to the CAO hospitals. Based on experience, your salary will be between € 2.336,- and € 3.490,- gross per month based on a 36-hour working week. This is in accordance with FWG50, depending on your experience level and background. In addition, a fixed end-of-year benefit forms part of the secondary conditions. You will start with a contract for a period of 1 year.
