Job description

We seek a new colleague who can contribute to building and extending the department’s reputation for excellence in research and teaching. Our research aims at having impact, evidenced by publications in top international academic journals and collaborations with companies. Teaching focuses on logistics and operations management courses and student supervision. Applicants receive a well-structured tenure track.

Your duties
  • Doing innovative research and publish this research in internationally leading journals;
  • Creating a stimulating learning environment for students at all levels (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.);
  • Being active in acquiring additional research funds, both individually and as a team effort with your colleagues;
  • Support the department in management as necessary.

Requirements

We are looking for candidates with a solid background in quantitative research skills and an interest in logistics and operations analysis. You have:
  • A (nearly) completed Ph.D. thesis in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Econometrics, Operations Management, Management Science or related fields;
  • A strong interest in analyzing and modeling real-life problems in logistics and operations using state-of-the-art quantitative methods witnessed by international scientific publications;
  • Good teaching and communication skills to interact successfully with students, industry, and academic partners;
  • Proficiency in English and a willingness to learn Dutch.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 6 years.

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and amounts to minimum €3,637 (scale 11) and maximum €4,978 (scale 11) per month, based on a full-time employment. The job profile is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 1 FTE.

The initial employment contract will be for a period of 6 years, with the possibility of obtaining a permanent position (tenure). In case of excellent performance, earlier tenure decisions are possible. Additionally, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam offers excellent fringe benefits and various schemes and regulations to promote a good work/life balance, such as:
  • a maximum of 41 days of annual leave based on full-time employment
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus

Department of Supply Chain Analytics
The Department of Supply Chain Analytics hosts a team that is driven by science with a purpose, focusing on solving real-life problems in distribution logistics, including performance analysis, distribution, and transport network optimization, and supply chain coordination. The group operates in a strong international research and industry partner network, participates in various national and international research projects and regularly organizes international conferences and workshops. Group members collaborate with leading researchers at a variety of international universities and research output is published in leading academic journals in the field. Our teaching mission is to equip students with the methodological skills, managerial insights and enduring curiosity necessary to make a valuable and lasting contribution to solving today’s challenges in the industry.
