As Assistant Professor of Public Administration you will be part of the Chair group of Public Administration at Radboud University’s Nijmegen School of Management (NSM). The position includes both teaching and research tasks. You will provide high-quality courses in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. These courses are provided in Dutch. Your teaching duties include the supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses. Furthermore, you will conduct high-quality research into public organisations and organisational behaviour.
 
The Chair of Public Administration covers the broad field of public administration with an emphasis on governance, accountability and control in the setting of interorganisational and intergovernmental relations and networks. There is a strong focus on theory-driven research using a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods. Specific research themes of the Chair include comparative public governance, dynamics in public governance, encompassing Europeanisation, and good governance at local, regional and national levels.

• a PhD degree (or you are close to completion) in Public Administration or in a closely related discipline;
• excellent knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research techniques;
• you are highly motivated and have the potential to build a record of excellence in both research and teaching;
• an excellent record in academic teaching, as evidenced by good teaching evaluations, and a willingness to obtain the Junior University Teaching Certificate within the duration of the contract;
• with regard to research you should possess a pipeline of submissions, revise-and-resubmits and publications in leading international journals in the field of public administration;
• experience with contract research;
• experience with the acquisition of research funds is valued as well.

Nijmegen School of Management
Nijmegen School of Management (NSM) is an academic centre of research and higher education, focusing on institutional and managerial issues within complex organizations in both the public and private domain. There are seven disciplines within the NSM: Business Administration, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics and Business Economics, Social and Political Sciences of the Environment, Human Geography, and Spatial Planning. The NSM strives for a multi-disciplinary approach whenever possible. Altogether, the NSM employs 265 FTE of whom 75% are academics.
 
The Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are organised in the NSM’s educational institute.The educational programme is given by small-scale teaching and provides a stimulating learning environment with an emphasis on the development of academic skills. NSM has about 4,500 students. The research activities of the NSM fall under the responsibility of the interdisciplinary Institute for Management Research (IMR). Using the motto ‘creating knowledge for society’, the IMR focuses on academic research into the development, design and effectiveness of the public and private structures that regulate, govern or manage human interactions.
 
The Public Administration programmes centre around a classic, generalist public administration core. They aim for their students to analyse problems and issues concerning government and governance, public policy and public sector management in an academically responsible manner. The programmes recognise the need in the Dutch public sectors for generalists with a thorough training in academic skills, and aim to address this by training multidisciplinary, academic professionals. The department is responsible for the development and quality of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in Public Administration, as well as for the courses in the NSM’s other educational programmes. What distinguishes the Nijmegen curriculum from other curricula is that our students learn to draw on theory and knowledge from constituent disciplines, and to apply their insights to problem-solving in the public interest. This multidisciplinary expertise is integrated into a focus on ethics and values in order to be able to act in the general interest in an increasingly complex world. Students are also extensively trained in research skills in order to be able to describe and explain developments in the field of Public Administration. Theories are offered from a comparative perspective.
