Job description
The Radboud university medical center (Radboudumc) is looking for an internationally leading expert to chair the Radboud Malaria Research Unit (RMRU) embedded in the department of Medical Microbiology and the Radboudumc Center of Infectious Diseases (RCI) of the Radboudumc.
The RMRU hosts the largest state-of-the-art facility in Europe for the generation of all life-cycle stages of (genetically modified) Plasmodium falciparum parasites and for breeding of (P. falciparum-infected) Anopheles mosquitoes. The research program of RMRU spans the entire scope of malaria research from basic research to clinical and population research (molecule-man-population) compliant with the guiding principle of Radboudumc research. It is the ambition of the RMRU to remain in the research frontline with visible impact on worldwide malaria control and elimination efforts.
The professor in Experimental Medical Parasitology will play a central role in setting institutional malaria research priorities together with the RMRU leadership team and will be a spokesperson for Radboudumc malaria research. Expertise of the candidate will involve at least one of the following fields: molecular biology, immunology, and/or infectious disease interventions (e.g. vaccines). Within this framework, the candidate is expected to ensure RMRU visibility, impact, and high quality outputs.
Radboudumc offers the candidate, depending on his or her qualities and prior experience, a starting package to gain scientific independence and establish a high quality research team. The candidate and his/her team will have full access to the RMRU facilities and networks to pursue excellence in malaria research. Within Radboudumc, the candidate's research team will be positioned to thrive within the existing networks of the Radboud Center for Infectious Diseases.
A biomedical or medical PhD degree with a track record of high quality research.
An established track record in infectious disease research, preferably malaria, that includes collaborations with key players (partners/funders) in the field.
At least 3 years of experience as assistant/associate professor or similar position.
A clear interest in translational malaria research.
Skilled managerial abilities to lead (inter)national research projects.
Excellent teaching skills.
A team player with strong leadership and communication skills.
Your profile meets the criteria (or will meet these criteria within five years) for the predicate of Principal Investigator.
