Job description

This core chair (“kernleerstoel”) is embedded in the section Developmental Psychology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Utrecht University. The chair holder uses a theory-driven approach to generate developmental psychological knowledge that informs urgent societal issues. The chair holder is an academic with a strong international reputation who is dedicated to delivering high quality research and education and helping junior faculty develop their independent careers.

Teaching
The chair holder has an important responsibility in teaching and student supervision, and contributes to curriculum development in undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programmes. Teaching activities concern the Bachelor Programme Psychology; Academic Master Programme Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology; Research Master Programme Development and Socialization of Children and Adolescents; and PhD Programme Child and Adolescent Studies. The chair holder initiates and oversees curriculum development and innovation.

Research
The chair holder generates and disseminates developmental psychological knowledge and promotes its societal application. Relevant expertise may pertain to understanding and promoting psychological growth and youth mental health. The application of this expertise may cover educational, health, and well-being inequalities among youth as they manifest in the context of families, schools, interpersonal relations, and/or societal participation. The chair holder’s expertise matches with and complements the section’s existing areas of expertise, which include evidence-based practice in youth mental health care, social cognitive development, and personality development.

Leadership
The chair holder is a team player who strongly invests in supporting the independent careers of personnel in the chair. Furthermore, (s)he actively takes on managerial and administrative responsibility within the section, department, or faculty.

Requirements

In accordance with current practice in the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences, 60% of the appointment involves teaching and 40% involves research.

Teaching

  • Strong commitment to quality of teaching and student supervision;
  • Proven effectiveness of teaching and student supervision as evident from student learning outcomes;
  • Extensive experience with one or more of the following: curriculum development and innovation, educational management, clinical training;
  • Strong commitment to internationalization and teaching international students.


Research

  • Outstanding research achievement demonstrated by sustained high quality publications, both as first and senior author, that have innovated the field;
  • Strong societal impact of research, demonstrated by knowledge dissemination to and/or implementation by societal stakeholders;
  • Proven ability to obtain external research funding;
  • Strong network of international collaborators, participation in international research consortia, and/or international research management roles.


Leadership

  • Strong ability and dedication to helping junior colleagues develop their independent careers (e.g., in research and teaching);
  • Team orientation: positive, interdependent attitude and proven ability to forge connection with coworkers;
  • Active societal role by collaborating with societal partners, participating in professional organizations, or initiating societal debate;
  • Strong ability and dedication to taking on managerial responsibility within the section, department, or faculty.

Conditions of employment

We offer a full time appointment. The gross salary depends on qualifications and experience and will range in principle between €5,582 and €9,812 per month, for full time employment of 38 hours per week (salary scale H2-H1, Dutch Universities Conditions of Employment).

The salary is supplemented with an annual holiday pay of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8,3% per year. We offer flexible working conditions to support a good work – life balance of our employees.
