You have the ambition to make scientifically and societally impactful contributions to the field of urban/health economics.

The position will consist of teaching (40% of your time), renewal of courses and thesis activities (20% of your time) and research (40% of your time). Therefore, you are expected to be enthusiastic about designing new and challenging courses, as well as to conduct scientific research that can make essential theoretical advancements, and that will impact societal developments.

Teaching (the lecturer part). You are willing and able to teach and supervise in the area of Health economics. The specific courses that you will cover are Management and Economics of Health and Care and Public health (MST32806) and Economics of Health and Care (UEC11806). These courses can be (partly) redesigned to better fit the focus of the UEC group and yourself. Next to these two courses, you might be asked to help out in other courses. In addition, UEC wants to re-structure her thesis procedures and planning.

Research (the postdoc part). You are an enthusiastic researcher with a background in health economics and/or spatial economics/geography, and/or behavioral economics/economic psychology who would fit in our team. We prefer someone who is interested in urban development and with possible spillovers to other areas of emphasis in the group.

You have a good statistical background and knowledge of various research methodologies (e.g. survey techniques, simulation, ABM, behavioral experiments, choice experiments). You are interested in connecting your teaching and research skills to research opportunities in the context of either behavioral change or spatial transitions in the urban and urban-rural context. Think for example about energy or health related research on drivers and barriers of behavioral change and technology implementation. You have experience with publishing your work in disciplinary economics journals or top journals in other fields.

To sum up:•A PhD in health economics/ urban economics / behavioural economics;

• Knowledge of health and care;
• Experience in lecturing, running tutorials and thesis supervision;
• A motivation in conducting scientific and societal impactful research;
• A strong team player willing to contribute to the wider interests of the group;
• Ability/willingness to co-supervise BSc/ MSc /PhD students.

We will reward you with a market-based salary for a 38 hours full time working week. You also have the opportunity to work 40 hours a week with additional holidays. The salary will depend on the qualifications and experience with a gross minimum of salary scale 10 (€ 2.709) and a maximum of € 4.978 based on 38 hours, in according to the Collective Labour Agreement of Wageningen University.

The Urban Economics group at Wageningen University is looking for a lecturer/post-doc to strengthen the teaching activities and the urban-health research agenda of the group.

Our group
Because of the high residential density, cities are great places to foster change. Change in terms of sustainable consumption, healthy life-styles and societal participation. This change is urgent, because with our current consumption and production behaviour, we will soon reach the planetary boundaries.
To use the potential of cities and their inhabitants to foster change, the Urban Economics group at Wageningen University focusses both on micro and macro processes. At the micro level, we concentrate on economic behaviour, institutions, and the drivers and barriers involved in a transition towards more sustainable urban consumption and healthy lifestyles. We use a behavioural economics approach, to study behaviour with respect to judgment, choice and social decision making. We also take into account subjective factors, spatial and social context and (expected) consequences of behaviour.
Next, the Urban Economics group focuses on the impacts of urbanization on actors and activities in the urban-rural interface. Important issues in this respect are the economic analysis of the changed relation between food production and consumption as well as the potential for energy and circularity transitions in cities and their hinterland.

The Urban Economics chairgroup is a new group in Wageningen, with a strong ambition to emphasize the potential of cities and their interactions with rural areas to create a more sustainable future.
