Are you interested in an interesting PhD opportunity? We are looking for a candidate who will become part of an international team doing basic and translational research aimed to improve cancer immunotherapy.

Job description

In our group, we aim to understand the molecular and cellular requirements for optimal anti-tumor T cell responses. Your project concerns delineating key signaling pathways for optimal function in T cells and dendritic cells in vivo in mouse models, and matching mouse and human cellular systems in vitro. We collaborate with the ‘clinic’, and we aim to translate immunotherapy-assisted vaccination strategies to application in cancer patients. Techniques include: in vivo mouse work, flow cytometric and functional analyses of immune cells, genome-wide transcriptomic and epigenetic analyses and associated bioinformatics, and molecular biology including CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing.

Requirements

We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious PhD student, with a university master’s degree and a background in immunology and cell biology. You have affinity with mouse studies and a motivation to understand biological systems at the molecular level. ‘Article 9’ competence is advantageous. Fluency in spoken and written English is a requirement.  

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

You will work 36 hours per week. You will be appointed for the duration of your studies, to be finished with a doctoral thesis, and for a maximum of four years. Your salary is a maximum of € 2,422 gross per month in the first year amounting to a maximum of € 3,103 gross per month in the final year, based on a fulltime position (scale Pro of the collective labor agreement of the University Medical Centers).
