The Department Mechanics of Solids, Surfaces & Systems (MS3) at the University of Twente is currently seeking for an assistant professor in the area of Interface Optimisation in Hybrid Materials.
Materials and manufacturing processes for light-weight structural applications is a central theme for the department. Our expertise covers a broad range of materials: from elastomers to metals and polymer composites. We closely work together with industry to solve today's and tomorrow's problems by improving scientific understanding of the underlying physics and by developing ‘design for manufacturing’ tools. We are one of the founders of the ThermoPlastic composites Research Center (TPRC) and the Elastomer Competence Centre (ECC), and have access to excellent infrastructure in the analysis of surfaces and interfaces and the testing and analysis of hybrid structures.
We are looking for a highly motivated assistant professor to strengthen our research portfolio in hybrid joints. The performance of multi-material systems is largely affected by the interfaces between their constituents. This position therefore focuses on the development of experimental techniques as well as modelling tools to analyse and describe the physical mechanisms at- and structure of the interface, with the aim to optimize the short and long-term structural performance of multi-material systems in terms of strength and robustness.
With your expertise, you will further strengthen our position in development of light weight structures composed of different materials. Your teaching tasks will contribute to the educational programs in Mechanical Engineering on bachelor, master and doctorate level.
For further information, please contact Dr. Matthijn de Rooij ; email m.b.derooij@utwente.nl or phone +31 53 4891178.
You can upload your application, including your c.v., motivation letter and list of publications before 6th October 2019 using the link below.
You will be appointed for two years, with the prospect of a permanent position after a positive evaluation. The university offers a dynamic ecosystem with enthusiastic colleagues in which internationalization is an important part of the strategic agenda.
The University of Twente. We stand for life sciences and technology. High tech and human touch. Education and research that matter. New technology which leads change, innovation and progress in society. The University of Twente is the only campus university of the Netherlands; divided over five faculties we provide more than fifty educational programmes. We have a strong focus on personal development and talented researchers are given scope for carrying out groundbreaking research.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status or disability status. Because of our diversity values we do particularly support women to apply.
The Faculty of Engineering Technology (ET) is one of the five faculties of the University of Twente. ET combines Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Industrial Design Engineering. Our faculty has approximately 1800 bachelor and master students, 400 employees and 150 PhD candidates. The departments of the faculty cooperatively conduct the educational programmes and participate in interdisciplinary research projects, programmes and the research institutes: Mesa+ Institute, TechMed Centra and Digital Society Institute.
