Assistant professor in Organisation Theory

… in its department of Organisation and Personnel Management.

We invite outstanding applications for a tenure track, in an assistant professor position in the field of organisational theory, preferably with an interest in organisational change. The position starts on 1 September 2020 or sooner.

RSM’s department of Organisation and Personnel Management consists of predominantly international staff from renowned academic institutions in Europe, the USA, and Asia. Members of the department engage in research that ranges from micro (OB) to macro (OT) perspectives, relying on both qualitative as well as quantitative methods.

Prominent research areas covered in the department are leadership, management of change processes, diversity management, and stakeholder management. Department members also study contestation and contested industries, creativity and the creative sector, and diverse organisational forms, such as corporations, NGOs, and co-operatives. Societal challenges and the influence of significant changes such as digitization, on organisations and their members, as well as the associated management challenges, constitute a central focus.

Department members have published in top tier journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Annals, Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Organization Studies and Journal of Management Studies. The department has an outstanding PhD programme and an established network of international collaborations, comprising research exchange visits to prominent international schools and including the New Directions in Leadership Research (NDLR) conference, hosted by RSM, Wharton, Duke University, and INSEAD.

Requirements

Successful applicants will have a PhD or be close to completing a PhD by the positon’s start date in OT, macro-organisational behaviour or a closely related field in management or social sciences. Applicants are expected to demonstrate outstanding achievements in macro-organisational research or clear evidence of high potential for such research. This entails published papers or articles under review in top management journals (see ERIM journal list https://www.erim.eur.nl/), and a promising pipeline of working papers and projects.

Teaching excellence or indication of excellent teaching potential is required as well. Candidates will be expected to play an important role in the master programme Organisational Change and Consulting (MSc OCC) offered by the department. As the position may involve teaching in both RSM’s English- and Dutch-language programs, fluency English is required and fluency in Dutch is desirable but not mandatory.

Conditions of employment

The conditions of employment comply with the collective labour agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU). Salary is commensurate with training and experience. The compensation package is competitive relative to European salaries and includes several benefits, such as an annual holiday allowance of 8 per cent, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3 per cent, and a generous number of vacation days.

Favourable tax agreements may apply to non-Dutchinternational applicants.

Department

Research environment

Research within RSM’s department of Organisation and Personnel Management is part of the organisation programme of the Erasmus Research Institute of Management (ERIM), which also provides extensive research support to faculty members. The programme runs an active seminar series with speakers from top international schools, a brown bag seminar, several annual conferences, and a visitor programme with eminent scholars. Funding support for research and conferences is provided.
