Job description

The Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) of Utrecht University is looking for a PhD candidate in the field of epidemiology. Research will focus on studying the possible health effects from the use of mobile communication devices including electromagnetic fields. The focus of the project will be on the analysis of large, prospective data sets, comprising more than 350,000 individuals, that have been collected in six European countries. The PhD candidate will be responsible for the analysis of the relation between mobile device use including electromagnetic field exposure on the one hand and health effects such as reproductive outcome, neurodegenerative diseases as well as self-reported health and well-being on the other hand.

Requirements

Candidates with a Master's degree in environmental or life sciences, epidemiology or health statistics, or a closely-related field and with an interest in interdisciplinary work are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate possesses good communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to work independently as well as within multidisciplinary teams. Organizational and time management skills are appreciated as is an affinity with data analysis.

Conditions of employment

Initially we offer a position (1.0 FTE) for one year in an international working environment. After a positive evaluation the appointment can be prolonged by another three years. The gross salary - depending on previous qualifications and experience - ranges between €2,325 and €2,972 (scale P according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) per month for a full-time employment. 

Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition, Utrecht University offers excellent secondary conditions, including an attractive retirement scheme, (partly paid) parental leave and flexible employment conditions (multiple choice model).
