Job description

In this job, you will support the sustainable intensification of vegetable and potato producing farms in several countries in Asia, Africa and South America. You will develop and implement training programmes in different modalities (Trainer-of-Trainers, instructor-led, online learning) focusing on knowledge development among farmers, advisors and other actors in the value chain. The training programmes intend to increase people's knowledge and skills and aim at improving productivity of crops, increasing product quality, ensuring sustainability and reducing cost price and production risks. You strengthen these learning processes by field-demonstrations, showcases, applied research and/or cooperation with farmers' organisations and lead-farmers. You will be part of a small team of engaged and hands-on professionals. Based on a number of multiyear projects, we are looking for enforcement of this team working in developing countries.

We are looking for a candidate with the following qualifications:
  • Multi-year experience in working with farmers in Asia and/or Africa and practical knowledge of the cultivation of field vegetables and potatoes in developing countries.
  • Expert in capacity building and private sector development, including experience in distance/online learning and use of multimedia.
  • Holder of an applied science BSc or MSc degree in agronomy or plant production. Experience in development of pedagogical material will be an advantage.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Hands-on mentality
  • Willingness to travel extensively.

Conditions of employment

We offer an initial one year contract of 36 hours per week with a performance based possibility for extension. A maximum salary: €4.549,= gross per month (based on fulltime employment and on scale 10 CAO WR), depending on education and experience. In addition we offer a holiday allowance of 8% of the annual salary and an end of year benefit of 3% with a possibility to exchange your conditions of employment for extra salary or leave.
