Job description

Maastricht UMC+ seeks candidates whose experience in teaching, research, and community service have prepared them to be among the new research leaders that will strive for scientific excellence and take responsibility to realize the vision of our Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Successful candidates will join a department with an internationally recognized team of biologists, physicists and clinicians conducting fundamental, translational and clinical research. The team is constantly seeking connection between research and clinical research questions, and in this multidisciplinary environment develops clinical trials with a focus on translational radiation therapy and tumor microenvironment.

New faculty members will join the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) and Oncology graduate research School GROW and will participate in graduate, MSc and BSc teaching. The applicant will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities of the Department of Radiotherapy as well as shared facilities for advanced masspectrometry, and ultra-high-resolution microcopy among others.

Requirements

Candidates must have a PhD and demonstrate an exceptional research portfolio with an active interest in fundamental and translational research into tumor biology. The successful candidate has a bold vision for the future of cancer research and have the skills to establish a team of researchers in the field of cancer research and radiation therapy. Essential is the ability to set a new direction for expanding the research portfolio within the Department of Radiotherapy including research into proton therapy and by participating in departmental fundraising. The research direction should also align with the vision of the Comprehensive Cancer Center mission “function preservation in cancer patients”.

Successful candidates will join a department with an internationally recognized team of biologists, physicists and clinicians conducting fundamental, translational and clinical research. The team is constantly seeking connection between research and clinical research questions, and in this multidisciplinary environment develops clinical trials with a focus on translational radiation therapy and tumor microenvironment.

Applicants with an excellent record of research productivity and demonstrated ability to develop an independent research program with funding acquisition in the areas of Cancer Biology, OncoImmunology, Single cell analysis, and Biomarkers are encouraged to apply. Other profiles may be considered as well. Experience in handling complex and extensive data is a plus. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the strategy of the oncology center of the MUMC+, especially to translational part of clinical trials run together with our affiliated Maastro Clinic (www.maastro.nl).

Conditions of employment

This is an appointment for undetermined time, preceded by a probation period of 1 year. This is in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch University Medical Centres (Coa umc ), article 2.4.1. in a fulltime appointment.

The Department of Radiotherapy at Maastricht University Medical Centre (www.maastrolab.nl) seeks outstanding candidates, for a full-time, Group leader position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor depending on qualifications. The position will include mentoring to develop a strategy to attain a full professor appointment.
