Functieomschrijving

As the new Assistant Professor you will contribute to the teaching and research activities of the strategic pillar ‘Organisational Dynamics in the Digital Society’. Regarding teaching, you will contribute to developing and teaching courses in the new, multidisciplinary master’s program. This program deals with the role of digital technologies in how we work, organize, and govern. In the program we will discuss technologies which have been at the forefront of popular and academic imagination, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and algorithms. We will elaborate on questions such as the type of work that is affected by these technologies, the kind of perspectives and (in)equalities this brings about, the ethical and privacy concerns that may rise, and how we deal with these technologies on the individual, organizational, and societal level. Our aim is to provide students with tools to navigate these issues, to develop their own understanding of them and to be able to advance technological interventions or intervene in them.

Regarding research, we are looking for a social scientist who has a demonstrated interest in digital technologies and its consequences for work, organizations, and governance. Specifically, we would like to strengthen our team with someone who has understanding of the everyday practices and politics of digitalisation in the public sector. Preferably, you have a background in both governance and the sociology of technology or STS. You are comfortable to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and with professionals in the field. You will develop, supervise and carry out high-quality research in collaboration with your own (inter)national network, as well as with colleagues from the Erasmus School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (ESSB) and the strategic pillar ‘Organisational Dynamics in the Digital Society.’ You will also publish in international academic journals. After some time, you will be supported to develop an individual research grant application to either the Dutch Innovational Research Incentives Scheme or the European Research Council.
