Job description

Digitalization in the built environment makes significant progress throughout the past decade. While showcasing how Virtual Design and Construction improves development of large infrastructure assets and facilities, digitalization of as-built models of urban space in geographical information systems becomes increasingly relevant. Digitalization research gradually moves from being centered at facility design and engineering only, towards covering life cycle management of both building and infrastructure asset systems.

This ‘BIM, GIS and life cycle asset management’ integration theme is highly visible in one of the dynamic research units of CM&E; the ZoARG | ReDUCE (www.zoarg.com).

This group focuses on digitalization of, smaller and more commonplace, buried infrastructure networks. ZoARG | ReDUCE focuses on Reduction of Damage to Utilities and Careful Excavation, and aims to map, model and visualize buried infrastructure to support efficient excavation, improve safety and increase reliability of utility construction and maintenance.

We seek for people that contribute to the ongoing research, teaching, and valorization activities of ZoARG | ReDUCE. You chip in to ongoing research on BIM and GIS implementation, mapping, (parametric) utility data modelling, 3D/4D visualization and digital risk management. Your additional qualities bring in expertise about one of the following topics: as-built modelling of infrastructure through remote sensing (e.g. LiDAR, photogrammetry, ground-penetrating radar), IoT applications for network monitoring, and automated approaches to excavation/trenchless technologies.

ZoARG conducts scientific research in an industry-based context. You, therefore, are interested in both bringing scientific-technological contributions, as well as in crafting and building impact for society through prototype development and real-life implementation studies. Besides being explorative and research-minded, you can conveniently transfer your knowledge and experience to future B.Sc., and M.Sc. students, following the Twente Educational Model.

If you dear to open up the boundaries in BIM, GIS and infrastructure asset management, apply now!
